Gaetano Marzotto receives “Lifetime Achievement Award 2019“, at the 15th Meininger Awards “Excellence in wine & spirit”.
Gaetano Marzotto, President of Santa Margherita Wine Group, has been honoured with the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement” award at the 15th “Excellence in wine & spirit” Meininger Awards.
The prize ceremony took place yesterday evening (Saturday 16th March) in Düsseldorf, with over 600 guests in attendance including many of the leading international figures in wine, on the eve of the 25th Prowein, one of the most important fairs in the world for the wine business.
The prize, awarded in previous years to international wine luminaries such as Gina Gallo, Miguel A. Torres, Fritz Keller, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Angelo Gaja, Margrit Biever-Mondavi and Marvin R. Shanken, was assigned by a jury of expert journalists from the wine publishers Meininger Verlag – whose journals include Weinwirtschaft, Wine Business International, Sommelier and Weinwelt. The jury chose to reward the outstanding success achieved by Gaetano Marzotto in his long carrier in the wine sector. Gaetano, together with his brothers Stefano, Nicolò and Luca, has been able to bring prestige to the family business they inherited, nourishing it with vision, passion and dedication and so establishing a period of unstoppable growth for Santa Margherita Wine Group and transforming it - thanks also to one of the largest investment plans in the history of Italian wine (over 242 million Euros from 2005 to today, thereby doubling employment) - into one of the most important private companies in Italy.
Presenting the award to Gaetano Marzotto was Ilka Lindemann, Editor-in-Chief at Weinwelt, watched over by the evening’s organizers, publishers Andrea and Christoph Meininger, to whom Gaetano Marzotto gave heartfelt thanks.
«I am enormously proud to receive this award in recognition of my work - commented Gaetano Marzotto - I don’t see it as a personal award but rather a recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication of my brothers, Stefano, Nicolò and Luca, too, along with the over 380 people who work with us every day in Italy and abroad. Working together to make the dream of our founder, my grandfather Gaetano, even greater and more ambitious. In 1935 he believed in modern agriculture, in collaboration between investor and workforce, in the power of free enterprise and a free market. I am proud that this prize comes from Germany, a market which has always paid great attention the quality of Italian wines and which has always been a source of great satisfaction for our industry.»
